Okay. So welcome to episode number 1. I'm very excited as you can probably already imagine. Because inside this first amazing first episode, we're gonna be diving into the world of niching. Yep, you heard it right, niching down your niche market. Now I'm gonna be breaking down the importance of your niche market. And before you say, oh, like, oh, yeah. But I know my niche and all that kind of stuff.

Jack [00:06:33]:
Right? I just want you to hang on a minute. Okay? So let me at least share my views inside this, episode, episode number 1, and my unique angle into what I believe what it means to nail your niche. So in a few few short minutes, we're gonna be diving deep into the monopoly metaphor. It's really cool. It's really fun. Trust me. And I wanna also just be make you very aware that niching is niching is not, is not just a strategy. Okay? It's kind of like the essence of your business.

Jack [00:07:07]:
Whether you're already established or you're thinking of starting out in your business, this is gonna be fun for everybody. It doesn't matter where you are at right now. You're gonna have fun. Even if you've gone through all the training you could ever done done niching already before. Stay tuned. Hang out with me. At least listen and give me a chance. So I'm gonna be discussing how to choose the right niche that guides you towards a business that just resonates.

Jack [00:07:32]:
Right? A business that helps you create products that matter. Business that crafts content that forges connections with your idle prospects. So you are here. I'm hoping you're ready. I'm just gonna dive straight into this one. Episode number 1 right now all about niching here inside that digital entrepreneur podcast. So let's just get started. Alright? Let's do it.

Jack [00:07:55]:
So here's the thing. When I first sat down to map out each of the first handful of episodes here for that entrepreneur podcast. I kinda strangely didn't do my usual thing, which is like hitting a stumbling block, what should I talk about, or self sabotaging that's not good enough or any of that kind of stuff. I actually instantly kinda knew what the 1st episode, this episode, number 1, had to be about. I had it in my head for the last, like, however many months now I've been doing this and been planning this. And I thought, as this is the first step in the podcast landscape for me as a person, as my personal venture and a business venture, as this is my first, step in the podcast landscape. I would then dedicate the podcast episode number 1 to what the digital entrepreneur's first step that needs to be in their journey as a digital entrepreneur, which is choosing your niche. So if you didn't know that already, the first step before before you even remotely think about launching a digital course or a membership program or becoming an online coach of any kind or selling any digital products and quitting your 9 to 5 and, you know, working anywhere from wherever you want around the world, you have to first of all choose your niche.

Jack [00:09:06]:
So we're just gonna dive into this. I'm gonna unwrap the powerhouse behind a business that doesn't just survive but thrives. If you want your business to thrive, this is the one to listen to. And it all comes down to your niche. So let's dive in and talk about the monopoly metaphor. Let's just go into it. I'm gonna hold back. I'm gonna go straight into the monopoly metaphor.

Jack [00:09:30]:
I really like this one. I love teaching this. I love talking about it. A really easy way for people to understand kind of how to properly niche down. So I'm talking about monopoly, the board game, because, like, why not? You know, choosing the right niche isn't about playing it safe. Okay? It's about sculpting a business that resonates. I'm hoping now with listening to me during the monopoly metaphor, you're gonna get this like, uh-huh. What the hell moment.

Jack [00:09:58]:
Okay? So I want you to kind of turn on your visual brain. Okay? I need you to visualize and picture this. You can close your eyes if you want to or you can daydream out the window for a minute. Unless you're driving a car, listening to me right now, driving your car, do not close your eyes. Okay? Do not, like, daydream out the window. Okay. So daydream is so close your eyes in just visualize this right now. Okay? It's it's a rainy, wet Sunday afternoon.

Jack [00:10:27]:
Rainy, wet, horrible outside Sunday afternoon. And so therefore, you've decided to do is you've gathered the family to the dining room table. And there on the table is the family monopoly board. Right? And the board is, like, you know, sprawled out before you. It's ready to go. Somebody in your family's already kinda started to count the money and setting up the bank and, you know, another person's getting the the cards together and some other bits and bobs ready. And you're all about to sit down and you're all really excited about to play monopoly. It's a wet day side.

Jack [00:11:00]:
You can't go out for walks. So let's play a good old family board game. But there's still one more thing to do. Right? Just think about it for a minute. What is the first thing you need to do before you can play monopoly? It's choosing your game piece. Right? The character, like the dog or the car or the boat or the hat or or the iron and whatever the other ones are. Okay? Whichever one Tuesday. So you can't roll that dice and get going until you've chosen your Monopoly game character.

Jack [00:11:33]:
Right? Now I want you to now think about this. It's not just a random selection, by the way. It's a strategic decision, much like picking your niche. Your niche isn't just a label. It's your business's fingerprint. It's your, you know, like, your unique spot in the entrepreneurial panorama. Okay? Now let's ease into the whole monopoly metaphor. Okay? I've just given it to you on a 50 foot view.

Jack [00:12:02]:
Now let's go start to peel the onion layers and let's unwrap this monopoly metaphor a bit more. Because who hasn't, like, daydreamed about being the shoe or the car or the dog. Right? I mean, my kids, whenever we play Monopoly, there is, like, always arguments over who's the dog, who's the car, and I always end up getting the really rubbish character. But that's beside the point. You daydream about being the shoe or the car where you date you really wanna be the dog this time. Right? So before you even roll the dice, you're faced with a critical decision, choosing your piece. Now imagine if your family said to you, you can be the 1st person to choose the piece. K.

Jack [00:12:41]:
That'd be really cool. Right? So guess what? Your business journey starts the same way. You have this opportunity to choose the right piece, choose the right character. Okay? So before you navigate the entrepreneurial board game, you gotta pick your niche. Now it's not about rolling the dice and then kind of hoping for the best. Okay? Just like in monopoly, you strategically have to choose your game piece. And then so, therefore, in your business, you strategically pick your niche. And then once you've done that, you then decide to look at the board game and kind of look at which corner of the board are you gonna plant your flag in on which color of the strips on the side of the board are you gonna be dominating? Which area of that board game do you wanna dominate? You've chosen your piece, your character, and now you're thinking about strategically where you're gonna dominate in this game.

Jack [00:13:39]:
What I mean by dominating the game, you know, monopoly, that's like putting down houses and hotels as the game progresses. And this is the same for your business. But with your business, it's not about choosing the colors and the areas of the game that you like or the names of the streets. It's about your passion, your expertise, and the audience who you wanna serve. You're not just playing the game. You're here to own the game. Right? You're here to own it. Now you've got your monopoly piece, so let's dive deeper into the metaphor.

Jack [00:14:11]:
So the Monopoly board is like this vast expanse representing endless other niches and opportunities and other doors that potentially open for you. Your mission is ultimately to find your sweet spot on the board. I'm gonna say that again. Your mission is to find your sweet spot on the Monopoly board. Okay? But you don't wanna get stuck there. There's like a whole board or a whole world to explore. It's not just about, like, playing the game. It's about dominating the game.

Jack [00:14:45]:
Sometimes we go into business and think, well, I've chosen my character. I'm gonna roll the dice. I'm just gonna plot around and pick up some cash every time I go past go, and I'm happy of that. But that's not like doing anyone any justice, and you're not dominating the board. Like I said before, I'm gonna repeat this. Right? You don't roll the dice without a game piece. You can't roll the dice until you've chosen your niche. So don't jump into your business until you are a 100% certain that this is the niche market you wanna go in.

Jack [00:15:09]:
And you're going in it with passion, with expertise, and knowledge, and you wanna serve the people within that niche market. So you strategically claim your niche territory, And it's not a random decision. Right? Because it's a thoughtful choice based on what fires you up and what you are the master or the expert at and who you are itching to serve. So you're not playing monopoly to land on Mayfair by accident. Okay. And you're not picking a niche just because it sounds cool. You're claiming your corner or your area of the board with purpose. Now for those who have zero clue when I just mentioned the word Mayfair and you do know what Mayfair is.

Jack [00:15:51]:
Okay? I think, the expensive, rich, expensive section on other board games, the Monopoly board games is like Broadwalk, I believe, but don't hold me to that. So the British version, the most expensive area is Mayfair. Like, everyone tries to get Mayfair. So if your version of Monopoly in your tree is different to Mayfair or different to board Broad Walk even. Reach out and let us know what what the most expensive rich area is on your Monopoly board. I'd love to hear it because I love to hear more about Monopoly. Alright. Let's get back digital dreamers.

Jack [00:16:23]:
You're still visualizing. So you've got your Monopoly piece, you're staking your claim on the board. Now let's talk about niches as your niche, really, should I say, as the compass. Your niche guiding your business journey. Case, not just a label. And you should never think of your niche as a label because it doesn't define you between now and the next 10 years. But it's your North Star that keeps you on track right now. Whatever it is you you specialize in right now, whatever you are, the expert in as right now, your niche, the one that you choose today is gonna be your niche niche your north star.

Jack [00:16:59]:
I almost said niche star then because I've said the word niche about a 1000000 times already. It's your North Star that keeps you on track. Okay? So let me give you an example of this. Let's say I don't know. We've got a yoga fitness coach who specializes in strengthening the core for people over 50. So then the North Star is now very easy to keep on track. So whenever our fitness yoga expert wants to create content or record another video for their audience. They now know that this content must serve their demographic.

Jack [00:17:32]:
So an example, over fifties. They specialize in yoga. So, you know, if they've done 50 videos already on yoga, it probably would be a bit random if they started doing videos on kettlebell workouts. Right? And it just wouldn't fit the audience. And so therefore, the audience are expecting them to deliver what they are the expert on. And in this case, it's a yoga expert who specializes in strengthening the core for people who are over 50. So the North Star keeps us on track. It doesn't allow us to derail or get get shiny object syndrome.

Jack [00:18:08]:
We must keep consistent. We must keep on track. We must keep delivering to our audience and what our audience wants from us. Right. Where was I? So, yeah, the monopoly metaphor. Let's go back. Sorry. I went on a bit of a tangent.

Jack [00:18:20]:
So now we're gonna be talking about kind of connecting with your niche. This is really important. So imagine your niche as like the voice in your ear during the Monopoly game, guiding your moves and your strategy. So in business, your niche will do the same. It's the kind of magnetic force pulling you from the right direction, helping you create the right products that align with your audience's desires and solving the problems that truly matter. It's so important that we tune into this. Sometimes there's the areas of monopoly where everyone wants it, and that's okay. It's like everyone wants to do this one thing or everyone's teaching this, and that's fine.

Jack [00:19:01]:
It's kinda telling you that if everyone wants that one area of Monopoly, then obviously there's a demand for it. Now the thing is when you find your area on Monopoly board that you quite I like that's resonating with you, and it doesn't necessarily have to be the really rich area. That's called your sweet spot in business. The niche not only aligns with your passion, but resonates with your audience. This is called the sweet spot. Okay? The sweet spot's all about your niche, aligning of your passions that resonates with your ideal prospects and your audience. Okay? It's the sweet spot. And the sweet spot where you're not just playing the game.

Jack [00:19:38]:
When you've got a sweet spot, you're not just playing the game, you're freaking crushing it. Like, you're smashing it. Because because you are playing the game through passion and it is aligning and resonating with your audience. That's called smashing it. Okay? The perfect sweet spot. Now let's now quickly just pause a minute and talk about the moment of truth. K. We're having fun.

Jack [00:20:01]:
We're rolling the dice. We're going around. We're choosing areas of the board. But the proof in the pudding, as they say Alright. Here we go. It's the truth. You've you've chosen your monopoly piece, strategically claimed your corner or the section on the board, and you've let your niche guide your business moves. But how do you know if it's working? Or how do you know if it ever will work? Like, how do you know that the niche or the course topic that you wanna launch a course one day is gonna be the thing that your audience will go crazy for? Like, how do you know there's an audience interested enough or demand in an audience for the niche that you wanna go into? The spoiler alert on all of this is it's in the payment.

Jack [00:20:52]:
That's right. So you can think you're picking the best niche in the world, but your niche isn't validated until your audience are actually willing to pay for it. So you can't validate your niche or you can't validate a course topic or a coaching program or a membership program by kind of like licking the tip of your finger and pointing it in the air in the hope that you catch the right direction of the wind. Okay? You can't be guessing this much like Monopoly, if you go all in and buy I don't know. Let me try and think of some of the areas of it. Like, the 4 train stations. Right? You know, you got those kind of only 4 train stations on the monopoly board. There's only 4 of them.

Jack [00:21:30]:
And let's say you go in on all of the 4 the 4 train stations. The thing is, how many times does somebody land on those train stations? Like, how much will you actually earn over time playing the Monopoly board versus somebody who's cleaned up the orange area, the pink area, the green area. Right? And you just gone all in on just the train stations. Well, it's not that your niche isn't profitable, but perhaps you are limiting yourself. So the only validation that tells you, yes, this niche is hot. And, yes, this course idea or this coaching program idea is also hot is when your audience actually purchases your products. Now in the world of monopoly, you prove your strategy's success when the cash starts flowing in. Right? Every time someone rolls a dice, they're Chuck and you a couple of $100 here and there of Monopoly money.

Jack [00:22:27]:
And in the business realm, it's not about rolling the dice, but about the rolling in the payments. The proof is in the pudding. Or in the online business world, the proof is in the PayPal account and how much money is going in there each day. Okay? Now here's a golden nugget for you, validation. I've said the word validation already. I'm gonna gonna say it again. It is absolutely crucial to validate your niche. Don't just assume you, you know, you've got a great one.

Jack [00:22:52]:
I've got a golden niche here. I know this is the best niche ever. You've got to put it to the test. And the only way to put it to a is by testing it with your audience. The proof isn't in the likes or the comments or the hearts on your Instagram account. It's in the payment. Okay? So if your niche is the real deal, people will show you the money. Alright.

Jack [00:23:15]:
So I've pretty much unwrapped the monopoly metaphor, explored the power of choosing your niche. We've learned that the proof is indeed the pudding, and it's, you know, been pretty fun so far. And I'm hoping that you're leaving with a pocket full of golden nuggets. Remember, the entrepreneurial board game is like Monopoly, and it all starts with that crucial first step, choosing your Monopoly character. Now before we part ways with this 1st episode, which I appreciate that you've been hanging out with me for 20 plus minutes so far. Okay? I'm gonna be closing this episode with my top tips to smashing it as a digital entrepreneur by kick starting with how to really niche down and what you should be focusing on if you're literally starting out or if you are out there currently right now trying to build an audience, trying to grow a tribe, trying to sell digital products, and things aren't quite working, things aren't quite clicking, then stay tuned to the end where I've got my top tips coming for you as well in just a minute. Now before we do, please connect with me on social media. Let me know your takeaways.

Jack [00:24:18]:
Share your entrepreneurial journey. You can head over to Instagram, find me. It's just literally Jack Long Digital is my Instagram handle, so connect me over there. Let me know how you got on. Okay. And now we're gonna just distill down some of the action steps now and combine all of this into some actual real action steps where the magic happens is taking action. These are the 5 steps, the secret sauce to kinda start nailing your niche or feeling a bit more confident that your niche, the one you're choosing, the industry you're going into is gonna be fruitful for you as a digital entrepreneur. Alright.

Jack [00:24:51]:
So let's kick start. Tip number 1, I'm calling, passion roll call. So before you even ponder your niche, take a moment for some self discovery. It's really important you do this. So what sets your soul on fire? Like, what are you truly passionate about? And, you know, is there a topic or a subject that you can talk nonstop about and would passionately teach others, like, without even thinking about charging or making any money from it. You just love talking about it. You can talk about it until the cows come home. And, you know, you're not interested in making you know, charging anyone.

Jack [00:25:28]:
You're just happy to share this this knowledge, this expertise, this passion. Okay? What is that thing that you're so passionate about that you can talk all day about? K? Your niche should harmonize with your passion, not like current trends. K? Or, you know, or just because you're thinking, oh, you know, this thing will make me loads of money because someone on a TikTok video said so. That is not how we choose our niche market. Do not choose your niche market on trends. Do not choose your niche market because someone said it's the most profitable niche to go in. You can be profitable if you're turning up with a 100% passion. Okay.

Jack [00:26:07]:
Tip number 2, Mayfair or Old Kent Road. K. Just to highlight again, Mayfair is like the rich area on the British version of Monopoly. Old Kent Road is the poorer area on the British version of Monopoly. Now in all versions of Monopoly, each property holds its unique value. Some are lower, some are higher. Right? And so this is the same when it comes to assessing your niche or the potential of your niche. Okay? So think about it.

Jack [00:26:36]:
Is it Mayfair, high risk, high reward, or is it Old Kent Road, steady and reliable. You wanna be choosing your niche wisely, but also being very aware whether your niche is high risk with a high pay at thumb stage or low and reliable but steady is the answer. Make sure you're fully aware of where your niche is and how you are coming into that niche market. Alright. Number 3 is niche validation. Now I kinda spilled the tea earlier on this. Don't assume your niche is golden. K? Proof is in the pudding.

Jack [00:27:09]:
Remember? And let your audience lead. Like, follow the rhythm of their responses and what they want, not what you think they want. Okay? It's not about likes. It's not about hearts. Just not about emoji thumbs up and comments. It's about the payment. The payment is what validates your niche and validates that you're on the right track, that your audience wants what you are offering. It's not about what you wanna teach.

Jack [00:27:39]:
I'm gonna say that again. Now it's not about what you wanna teach. It really isn't. I learned the hard way in this by the way. I went into a niche market. I created a product. I spent months on end making this really amazing course. I launched it to the world, and it was like pulling teeth.

Jack [00:27:54]:
Because I launched a a digital course that nobody wanted. So I had to start again. I wasted months months of my time doing all of this. I asked my audience exactly what they wanted, and the result actually really surprised me. But that result validated me that this is what my audience wants. When I go to create a course based on what they want, it should hit the ground running, and it did. That's a long story short, and that's that's for another episode coming up. But what I want you to remember is it's about understanding what your audience wants and more importantly, knowing what their problems are.

Jack [00:28:28]:
What is your audience's biggest problems? And make sure you have the biggest solution for the biggest problem. And normally, the biggest problems create the higher demand, meaning the more successful you'll be as a digital entrepreneur. Tip number 4, sweet spot areas. Okay. So your sweet spot isn't stumbled upon by luck. Okay? It's the outcome of strategic choices. So use your passion and your expertise as your map coordinates to kind of navigate to the area of the Monopoly board or the entrepreneurial board that most resonates with you. Okay? Monopoly is, as you know, made up of lots of different colorful areas from brown to blue to orange to green to pink and more.

Jack [00:29:13]:
Each area has its own value. But the area you probably should land on or start to try to buy and dominate is the area that most resonates with you. Okay? Whether your character coincidentally just keeps landing on this area. Like, every time you roll your dice. Oh my god. I keep landing on the orange area. I've landed on the orange area, like, 6 times now in a row. Okay? Or maybe it's just a color that you like.

Jack [00:29:41]:
Maybe orange is your favorite color. But what I wanna say is if you keep landing on that area all the time, don't take coincidences for granted. Use your gut instincts. And the same should be for your business and choosing your niche, but also the direction that you wanna go in. Okay? Or shall I say, your north star to navigate. Your north star helps you direct you on a successful journey around that digital entrepreneur board game. Okay?
